Roger Basu

Roger I. Basu, PhD, PEng
President, Roger Basu & Associates Inc
Roger I. Basu is a structural engineer with more than 45 years experience. His early experience was in the structural design and analysis of buildings, bridges and offshore structures. For the last 30 years he has focused exclusively on ship and offshore structures.
After a career in industry and academia Roger set up his own company in 2013. His company has worked on a variety of projects for engineering companies, universities and an oil major. He has also worked on preparing and presenting training on various engineering topics.
Roger recently spent two years teaching various naval architectural subjects at Webb Institute, NY. Prior to Webb, Roger had a 15-year career with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Houston, TX where he retired in 2012 in the position of Director of Shared Technology responsible for the development of several technologies applicable to both marine and offshore sectors.
Prior to joining ABS he worked for 10 years at a naval architectural firm in Ottawa, Canada working on the design of navy and coast guard ships. Before that he worked at engineering companies in the UK and Canada, and also spent 5 years at the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory, University of Western Ontario undertaking research into wind effects on structures and where he gained his PhD.
